Our History

For well over a century, this historic, family-owned company with the iconic red sign has anchored the corner of East Lake Street and 43rd Avenue South in Minneapolis, has been providing exemplary cleaning and restoration to rug owners throughout the Upper Midwest.

Sam and Far Navab

Co-owners Sam and Far Navab — who also own Navab Brothers Rug Company in Saint Louis Park — purchased the company in 1999, a decision that meshed with their instincts as rug conservators.

In addition to providing customers with expert care, Sam and Far knew they were taking charge of a regionally respected brand, while assuming guardianship of a facility in serious need of revitalization. Through careful planning and investing, American Rug Laundry’s cleaning equipment is now technologically advanced and environmentally sound, the building is solid inside and out—with an energy-efficient solar roof—and the eye-catching red sign shines brightly again. What’s more, we’re expanding, with a second location in the Twin Cities area.

American Rug Laundry is proud to meet the needs of the widest possible array of customers, some of whom even remember accompanying grandparents who brought in rugs! Generations of rug owners know that cleaning, maintaining and conserving rugs is one of the wisest ways to recycle.

Along with providing cleaning and restoration for generations of customers, American Rug Laundry has provided employment for the Twin Cities community for over a century. In addition to employees who are experts at cleaning, drying and in-home carpeting and upholstery cleaning, our team includes master weavers, dyers and restorers.

Together, all of us create a diverse, lively atmosphere, representing almost as many ethnic groups as the rugs we work with. Team members are united by their respect for the individuality of each rug and each owner, and are fully trained to provide friendly, courteous and caring service.
